The most common cause of hair loss is inheritance. Men and women inherit the gene for hair loss from either or both parents. Men are most commonly affected by the inherited gene as the hormone, testosterone, activates the genetic program causing loss of hair follicles. Currently there is no known method of stopping this type of hair loss. The age of onset, extent, and rate of hair loss vary from person to person. Severe illness, malnutrition, or vitamin deficiency can accelerate this process.

The red color is the most susceptible to UV fading/damage from exposure to the sun . Its color molecules are also bigger than those found in brown or black dyes which means the molecules "slip" (come out) with more frequency (especially if one uses a non color safe shampoo on a regular basis).

There are a few ways to keep this color from fading as fast:

1. Use a sealer to minimize "slippage". A sealer we use and recommend is SalonTools Leave In Protectant. More info on this product can be found [HERE].
2. Do not expose your hair to the sun frequently.
3. Do not use hot water when showering.
4. Use a "no sulfate" shampoo and a color retention conditioner that are specifically designed for color treated hair such as SalonTools Color Retention products. More info on this product can be found [HERE].
